In Sissel starting working on a new album in the spring with producer Rick Chertoff, the mastermind behind albums by Cyndi Lauper and Joan Osborne in the 's and 's, and commuted between her Copenhagen home and New York. The CD was to be released the next year, but Sissel and Stageway were unhappy with the results of the recording sessions and scrapped the album altogether.

In November and December, Sissel celebrated the 10 th anniversary of her Christmas concerts, but unfortunately the latter part of the tour had to be cancelled due to a throat illness.

The beginning of marked Bergen as the «European city of culture», and hometown girl Sissel performed at the opening ceremony for Norwegian royalty.

One Day , the first single Sissel co-wrote from the new album, was released to Norwegian radio in October, and the CD, All Good Things , had its proper release in November, more than six years since her last solo album.

The disc sold , copies and received praise for its collection of pop-oriented songs, written by Norwegian songwriters and Stageway artists Lene Marlin, Morten Abel and others. The concert was broadcast live on the Internet.

In Sissel received a strange request: to record a song with Danish punk-rock group Sort Sol Black Sun , but ever the crossover artist, she accepted and recorded Elia Rising , which appeared on the band's album Snakecharmer , released in Denmark in April.

The teaming led to several Sissel appearances at Sort Sol shows in Tivoli and at the Roskilde Festival, where they performed at 2 in the morning for a raucous audience of 50, rock fans. In mid-June, she was honored as the godmother of the racing boat DJuice, christening the vehicle and performing at a ceremony at Aker Brygge in Oslo before its journey around the world as part of the Volvo Ocean Race.

The crew took first place in the final leg when it completed the race a year later. In the fall, Sissel toured Scandinavia and sang at a memorial ceremony in October at Copenhagen Airport. August saw Sissel as a soloist with the Radiounderholdningsorkestret at a pair of annual outdoor concerts in the park surrounding Ledreborg Castle near Roskilde, Denmark.

In addition to the orchestra, Sissel entertained the sold-out crowd of 22, along with guest artists, including Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains and The Pilatze Brothers.

Sissel released a self titled album based on the songs from All Good Things in the USA in October, and followed it with a small promotional tour of Borders book stores in several cities. The show garnered mixed reviews from the Russian media, although Sissel received all-around high marks.

They presented the plan to her and, much to their annoyance, she turned it down. For the next few years, Sissel continued to build her career in Scandinavia.

She often released the same album in Norway, Denmark and Sweden, with some different songs sung in the other languages to tailor them for the country. Towards the end of the s, Sissel started to come to more international recognition. The composer of the soundtrack, James Horner, said it was a difficult choice between Sissel and Celine Dion as to who would record the theme song but, in the end, he chose Celine. Titled Sissel, the album included many of the songs from her album All Good Things and added the folk song Shenandoah, and Solitaire — a Neil Sedaka ballad.

With very little publicity and marketing, Decca records expected to sell , copies in the first nine months. Taking everybody by surprise, yet again, the record managed that in just three months! Her first album was basically a pop album and her career has covered everything from folk to classical plus a couple of more surprising choices!

In , as a sign of her openness to all genres of music, Sissel appeared on the song Prince Igor with the rapper Warren G. The album The Rapsody Overture was a concept album combining rappers with classical and opera singers. The song was a big hit across Europe, reaching the top of the charts in Norway and Iceland while doing well in many other European countries.

But rather than leaving it on record, Sissel appeared to sing the song live on stage. Despite flirting with music of all kinds, for many Norwegians, Sissel means one thing: Christmas. She released her first Christmas album in December It soon sold , copies in Norway, breaking her own record for album sales from the year before to create a new record. The album consisted mostly of lesser-known Scandinavian Christmas Carols and the record company anticipated sales of , Instead, the album sold , in its first two months in Norway alone!

She has sung at times of national celebration and also national tragedy. This was for her contributions to music and her role as an unofficial ambassador for Norway. The album Titanic: Music from the Motion Picture sold over 30 million copies worldwide and became the highest-selling orchestral film score in history. In , Sissel was nominated for her first Grammy Award for her collaboration with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for the album Spirit of the Season, recorded during her Christmas concerts with the Choir from the previous year.
