Also, Jenna and Tamara learn whether or not they have been accepted into the same college. The annual senior bonfire becomes a powder keg when Jenna and Tamara find the boys' girl-rating tradition known as the Phone Book.
The battle of the sexes erupts once again when Jenna and Tamara's Dude Database goes viral and reveals a secret that causes friction in their own friendship. As Valentine's Day approaches, the entire school is mad at Jenna over the Dude Database, while Tamara refuses to come clean about her involvement.
Jenna's solution is to rent a senior party bus, but things don't go as planned. Thinking that they have bad blood, Jenna competes with Gabby to make Matty's 18th birthday special, but the two end up forging a real friendship. Meanwhile, Sadie and Tamara fight over control of the cheer squad in Lissa's absence. Jenna also receives a surprising letter in the mail. Jenna feels guilty about her brief hookup with Matty, but accidentally tells Gabby and puts herself on bad terms with the both of them.
Sadie invites everyone on a spring break trip and also hires Jake to edit her video entry for a scholarship contest, with hilarious results. The crew arrives in Rosarito, Mexico for spring break. Matty invites Jenna to come with him to meet his biological father, but Gabby shows up at the last minute and takes her spot instead. Jenna finally gets a college acceptance and Sadie wins her scholarship to Columbia.
Jake and Tamara find out that they are famous in Japan. Lissa decides to start living life on the wild side after escaping from her parents. Spring break continues in Rosarito. Matty spends more time with his biological father Daniel and as they are bonding his father plants doubts in his mind about his relationship with Gabby. Jake and Gabby sleep together after Jake is rejected from Northwestern. Lissa goes to a bar to have fun and finds her father, there they end up having a heart-to-heart conversation.
Matty asks Lacey if she's seen Jenna, she tells him that he has to let her go and let her move on. Jenna finds out that she is going to be a big sister, and sparks a connection with a marine named Brian. In the end, Matty watches Jenna and Brian at the beach while realizing he still has feelings for her but had his chance and must now let her go. She says, "every year I go to my old high school and I talk to teenagers about their lives and the things are going through to stay engaged and to stay true to our show and ensuring that we are hitting the right notes".

And I am. Except for this show. I'm in my 20s still a kid, I know, but certainly far removed from a sophomore in high school. This show is witty. It has me laughing out loud in every episode. I am usually patient about new episodes of my favorite shows. With this show, however, I yell at my TV with the episode ends. I wish it was an hour-long. I have never been more excited to hear about a show being renewed for another season.
But I digress Jenna is quirky and smart. Yes, she's awkward, but in the most lovable of ways. Valerie recruits students to be in her After School Special video. Jenna lies to Val to get her and Collin out of the project. Sadie suggests a story of a loser girl who tries to kill herself then becomes popular then alienates all her friends. Val realizes the story was about Jenna and goes to help her but Jenna goes off on Val.
Jenna writes a mean essay about Val and gives it to Mr. Hart to publish. Val attempts to patch things up with Jenna, but Jenna rejects it. Tamara pushes Jake to do more work in his campaign for Class President. Jake fights Tamara over her trying to change him into the perfect boyfriend and their fight ends with her deciding to run against him for Class President. Jenna goes to a club with Collin but discovers that Collin has also invited his ex, Angelique.
Jenna flees to the bathroom when Collin wants her to do ecstasy, but then she learns that Angelique already put the drug in her drink. High from the ecstasy, Jenna, Collin and Angelique are on the verge of a threesome when Jenna feels uncomfortable and says she needs to go home.
Instead, Collin grabs Angelique and begins kissing her. Desperate, Jenna calls Matty for a ride. Still high, Jenna gets upset over another girl's earring in Matty's car and asks Matty to hold her.
Jenna thanks Matty for being her hero and he says it's all he ever wanted to be. Jenna attempts reconciling with her parents and friends, but the friends aren't so willing to take her back in.
Things get dirty in the Presidential Campaign between Jake and Tamara. Ming begins losing control of the Asian Mafia. Jenna learns that she's caused a fight between Matty and Devon, over Matty leaving to pick up Jenna. Jenna confronts Collin, asking if he slept with Angelique after the club, but Jenna learns that he had never stopped having sex with Angelique. Val gets indefinitely suspended from her job because of Jenna's article.
Tamara wins the Presidential election and Jake breaks up with her because of it. With Jenna and her girls on good terms, Jenna thinks she might be able to rekindle an old flame with Matty.
Jenna still feels guilty about losing Val's job, so she seeks to make amends. She enlists her mother's help to get Val to attend the school hearing. Meanwhile, it's prom season at Palos Hills and Jenna is convinced that Matty will ask her in the midst of their renewed friendship. This is a one-hour special episode of Awkward.
In the one-hour episode season finale Jenna has to write an assignment about who she wants to be, which causes her to make a life-changing decision; Sadie is worried that she's falling in love with Austin; Jake has an interesting way to deal with Tamara's control about everything on their relationship; and Ming, nervous about what could be her first time, tries to stop Fred from having sex with her.
