Mortal kombat who is the best character

Jax is an icon of Mortal Kombat and a staple to the franchise. He is a high-ranking soldier who had a hand in training Sonya Blade. Due to losing his human arms in the first Mortal Kombat tournament, Jax was fitted with cybernetic ones that grant him incredible strength.

Using a combination of grappling, ground pounds, heating up his cybernetic arms, and throwing bone-crushing punches, Jax is a threatening opponent who can control a fight very strategically in MK11 , while also looking cool as ever.

The beard is a nice touch. Shao Kahn is just scary. The brutally violent tyrant of Outworld returns to the fray as an unlockable character in MK Shao Kahn has killed many fighters in Mortal Kombat lore, and he is feared by many within the franchise. Wielding a massive hammer and dealing immense amounts of damage to foe when attacking, Shao Kahn can obliterate opponents and is a nightmare in the hands of the right player.

He is a more than worthy opponent for nearly every character, both in lore and in gameplay. Raiden is the iconic god of Thunder and the mentor of the Mortal Komba t series main protagonist Liu Kang. Using the power of lightning in tandem with his masterful martial arts abilities, Raiden returns in MK11 and is just as powerful as fans remember. With abilities ranging from flight, electricity, and teleportation, it's easy to understand why Raiden is one of the most powerful characters within Mortal Kombat lore and his presence is always essential to the franchise.

Scorpion's attacks are quick, devastating, and numerous as he has many ways of combating opponents. Kira is a bad lady; an anarchist, in fact. Strike two. She also wields knives? You might be solid in a scrap Kira, but that's three strikes too many for our taste.

Kai, too, is a shaolin monk and was even trained by Liu Kang and Kung Lao. That means he can deliver fireball attacks and martial arts kicks with finesse, but that ultimately makes him feel like a watered-down, unremarkable version of his teachers. Worst of all, the two more famous monks evidently forgot to teach Kai the secret to having staying power.

His design ho-hum; he's basically a walking version of the planet Mustafar from Star Wars. In fact, Blaze may have actually have been more interesting when he was a tantalizing background detail in The Pit II stage. Meat is basically what would happen if someone survived a dip in the Dead Pool. He's a bloody, incomplete experiment of Shang Tsung and part of a long line of secret characters made official.

His oddball offense includes yanking own eye out to regain health but as unique as he is, he clearly hasn't had the lasting appeal of fellow hidden characters like, say, a Reptile or Smoke. Drahmin is an Oni who also looks like a weird hodgepodge of every loose accessory in your toy box put together.

What are we even looking at here? Some characters get in trouble for being too bland but Drahmin might have a little too much going on there.

We do like his design except for having way too many toes! Remember Sareena? That's not a terrible thing to be, but Sareena's had a rough go of it in terms of relevancy we blame the taint of MK: Mythologies Sub-Zero, the title Sareena made her debut in. NetherRealm did throw her a bone by giving her a decent cameo during MK X's story mode, but she's only been a playable fighter in a couple of games, unfortunately. Imagine a horrible reality where the MK film never happened, so Kano never became a charming Aussie bad guy.

Tribog is the Swiss army knife of cyborg ninjas in that he's got the abilities of Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, and Sub-Zero rolled in one. Shouldn't that make him a quad-borg in that case? Anyways, there's little to the character other than that but Triborg is a neat novelty if nothing else. These two are fun but also a liability due to their original transparent appearances making them hard to keep track of during the heat of battle.

Mokap is a terrible fighter conceptually but we love him as a great joke character. He's just a motion-capture actor! Stupid, but amazing! Coming from a realm of vampires that had been merged with Outworld, Nitara was hell-bent on separating it.

They never did anything of interest with her after Deadly Alliance , and she was easily forgotten. Also, I never got why she wore sleeves to go along with her leather bikini. Maybe she just has sensitive arms. Skarlet is female Ermac in just about every way, although they never outright say that.

Did she do something wrong? Was she a punished hero? Tremor owes a lot to his long-running mystique. He started out as a boss in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces in , one of the worst Mortal Kombat game of all time not counting unfortunate ports of otherwise good games.

So who is Tremor? Tremor is a brown-clad Lin Kuei ninja later redesigned to have stone flesh who left his clan in order to join the Black Dragon for reasons never truly explained.

He can even match him in causing earthquakes by punching the ground. The most she did was decide not to kill Kitana when Shao Kahn told her to. Even her Armageddon ending was boring as hell. After that, Smoke stepped down and became a lackey for Noob Saibot, giving us the unique Noob-Smoke tag team character in Deception. I really liked his long-haired redesign in the reboot. With the Orderrealm vs. Chaosrealm storyline going on in Deception , Darrius was a nice wrinkle. On the surface, he was a good guy.

He lived in the realm of Seido and grew disgusted with the oppressive order, choosing to start a revolution. Considering how extreme guys like Hotaru are, that would normally paint Darrius as sympathetic. One character type that always shows up in Mortal Kombat games is the down-to-earth fighter.

Same deal with Stryker. Goro and Kintaro have already failed in the prior two games. Of course, when Motaro got killed off so early on in the rebooted version of the story, and Goro and Kintaro were still hanging around, Sheeva became just another grunt. With both Sonya and Kano not in Deception , it was a decent idea to create a character with a mix of their moves.

Both of their endings have the winner gain ultimate power, show emotion for the other, and then get stabbed in the back for it. The Kollector looks like he showed up a little too late to the party. To Kollector, he admires his lord to an almost religious degree and shows no remorse for his actions because of it. With six arms. Kollector is a revelation in terms of animation and fighting style. Gun arms are awesome. The fact that Jacqui can choose between shotguns, machine guns, and pulse cannons is even better.

She was a much stronger character in Mortal Kombat 11 , where her complicated relationship with her father went in some interesting directions, especially in her ending, in which she chose to prevent his PTSD at the cost of her own existence. NetherRealm also introduced Aegis Reflector attacks into her arsenal and really, why should Urien from Street Fighter have all the fun?

Rain was pretty dumb up until Armageddon and Mortal Kombat 9 , in which he became an egomaniac. Starting with Armageddon , Rain started showing personality as a power-hungry jerk who believed that he was owed everything because he was the greatest fighter and was the son of a god.

This transitioned well into his Mortal Kombat 9 ending where he killed Shao Kahn for his perceived lack of respect. Raiden thanked him and called him a great hero before pointing out that Rain was the son of the Edenian god Argus.

Thanks, Raiden! The Red Dragon was one of the better ideas for expanding the Mortal Kombat lore. It made sense to move on, and they gave us the Red Dragon, the rival group led by an anti-Kano villain who was a calculating and cold assassin.

Mavado fell down the totem pole when they stopped caring about the Red Dragon in Deception temporarily killing Mavado off in the process and then decided to retcon him into second-in-command to Daegon by the time Armageddon rolled around. Shinnok should have been awesome. Then he showed up in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero , which made him look like a jester as played by a guidance counselor.

He was just a lazy Shang Tsung. Shinnok ends up jumping up the list a bit because of his depiction in Mortal Kombat X. Still looking like kind of a weenie at times, he at least has the terrifying Corrupted Shinnok final form to fall back on.

Sonya is the weakest of the original seven characters. The first lady of Mortal Kombat fits right in the line of awkward outsiders and unfazed adventurers. Then again, a lot of that is forgiven for that scene where she goes to town on Quan Chi and crushes his nuts.

Guys, Ronda Rousey is so bad. She weighs down every single Sonya scene with her voice acting and it gives me no choice but to bring Sonya down several notches.

No jury would convict me. SNK 2. The duo is a bit paper-thin at times, but at least their symbiotic species is the most original new race the series has introduced in years.

Cetrion, by design, is more nightmarish than her brother Shinnok. Shinnok is pretty straightforward as a villain, especially when later games outright describe him as being the God of Evil or God of Darkness or whatever he is. In Mortal Kombat 11 , she defies her own position by aiding her mother Kronika and trying to bring forth a reality of endless warfare.

Her ending has her break away from that behavior only to rewrite reality as a hellish existence for the sake of making peace and love seem that much better in comparison. People want to believe in a God that is loving and compassionate and Cetrion dresses the part but acts like a total sociopath. Then he made his first official appearance by clowning the combined might of Raiden, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi without breaking a sweat.

He would never be nearly as cool as Shao Kahn his former advisor, who killed him with treachery years ago , but he was the right villain for what the series needed at the time.

He works best as an accessory to Scorpion, finally giving him some semblance of family and helping to give him closure. Jax was cool as hell in his first couple of appearances, playing the super-strong army dude who would charismatically break your face. Jax gathered more dimension in the reboot, mainly due to his tragic death, time as an undead ghoul, and the return from it.

In Mortal Kombat Unchained , they played it up that putting Jax in that kind of situation would turn him into a juggernaut made out of raw hatred. Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11 went further and showcased the long-lasting mental effects of having to go through that ordeal.

You know what else rules? Putting out cigars on your metal hand. Also, being reskinned as Carl Weathers in Predator. Sareena showed up in Mythologies as a demon underling of Quan Chi. She is essentially the anti-Scorpion in that Sub-Zero chose not to kill her when given the chance, and it ended up having a positive outcome. She aided him against Quan Chi and then asked him to help her leave the Netherrealm.

Shinnok seemingly killed her, but as explained in the Deadly Alliance Game Boy Advance port Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition , she was able to reform and escape from the realm. From there, she was an ally of the second Sub-Zero and tried to be a better person, despite her demonic origins.

He wants to stop Onaga from ruling the realms, but as a means to resurrect Shao Kahn because he liked his style as a conqueror. His teleportation tactics and dark clone assists have both done a bang-up job when it comes to making his combos stand out. Ever since he debuted in Mortal Kombat II , the hammer-wielding giant has entertained us and pissed us off at the very same time. How could you not? Once we finally got the chance to try him out for ourselves, we ended up warming up to the big guy as we became more familiar with his brutal grabs and devastating leaps.

For those aforementioned reasons, Goro is one of the most recognizable characters in Mortal Kombat history. His masterful use of telekinesis gives him access to a slew of slick moves that make his combos pop off the screen. All she wants is a family. How can you fault the poor girl for that?

But her affiliation with Shao Khan relegated her to the role of a baddie. Wait, let us rephrase that And to be honest, ninjas are cooler than a whole bunch of other comparable warriors from real-world history.

Both his original self and the younger sibling that took over his position represented the role quite well. And over the years, Sub-Zero has been adorned in some awesome costumes and acquired, even more, moves that tap into his bone-chilling moveset. That person is none other than the best Mortal Kombat character of all time, the Hellspawn ninja known as Scorpion.
