What does a meteorologist do? Meteorologists are scientists who study and predict atmospheric conditions. The one year MSc Applied Meteorology and Climatology at the University of Birmingham provides comprehensive training in understanding, modelling and prediction of atmospheric processes. You'll need a honours degree in a relevant subject, such as geography, environmental science, mathematics or physics, to be accepted onto the course. A climatologist may produce climate assessments and forecasts of seasonal conditions, or contribute to national and international assessments of climate variability and climate change.

A research meteorologist develops and tests theories and concepts, applying the laws of physics to the study of the atmosphere with the aim of improving forecasts and warnings.
